The Cross

Mark 8:31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. (NIV)

Jesus knew He was going to Jerusalem to die, yet He went. Why? Because He knew the importance of the cross. He knew that without His death there could be no forgiveness and no hope. He could have turned around and gone the other way but He loved us too much for that. Listen to what He did for us.

Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet

we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But

he was pierced for our transgressions,

he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and

by his wounds we are healed.

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and

the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (NIV)
